In spite of a lively performance by Harsh Mayar the film fails to connect on an emotional level. Most of the scenes are repetitive whether its scenes between Kalam & Ranvijay or Kalam & Laptan (Pitobash) or Bhati & Lucy. The screenplay is more focused on Kalams everyday life at the dhabha rather than bringing in any conflict and since Kalam is a super smart kid you know how it will end and the journey towards the end is pleasant but not extremely engaging. An unnecessary love track is added between Bhati & a Lucy (Beatrice Ordeix). Most of the film is centered around his friendship with the young school going prince Ranvijay (Hussan Saad ). Inspired by the ex President A.P.J Kalam's speech he starts calling himself Kalam. Chhotu is fond of reading and is a smart kid. Made purely for a Film Festival International audience the film is at the most an average film which raises the issue of education for the underprivileged kids.Ĭhhotu (Harsh Mayar) is dropped off by his mom to work at Bhatis (Gulshan Grover) dhabha in Rajasthan (the choice of location is a clear - wooing the foreign audience device).
I am Kalam is one more addition to the made for adults children film category.
